ICT Projects
ICT Teaching Solutions. Each project covers key ICT areas:
  • Control (3 or 4 Logicator Soft Systems with a common theme)
  • Presentation (including audience and fit for purpose)
  • Financial Modelling (spreadsheet modelling)
  • Data validity (simple data checking against a web resource)
All projects feature:
  • Themes that will engage boys and girls throughout Key Stage 3
  • Full teacher guides, lesson plans, introductory materials, assessment guides and example materials

ICT Projects are ideal as a teaching package, as an assessment opportunity or preparation for the On Screen Test.

  • Skinflint

Skinflint is a classic rock band gigging hard in the UK. They will need help with elements of their stage show, finances and promotion. Pupils work to control stage systems, analyse the costs of gigs and help produce and check a promotional presentation.
Soft Systems control tasks include "Stage Show" in which pupils can control the stage lighting and effects to match a Skinflint music track. They can also build Logicator programs to keep a check on the number of people in the club where the band are playing - and even cool down the drummer if things get too hot!

  • KT-TV

K T Lydon is the feisty anchor of KT-TV’s popular Six O’Clock News show. This project offers
pupils the chance to work in the environment of a fast moving TV News show, examining aspects of the studio control systems, finances and advertising.
Soft Systems control tasks include “Mix the News” – a sequencing based task which requires pupils to build a Logicator program to match the visuals displayed on monitors to the soundtrack of the news commentary. In other tasks, pupils can control the studio lighting to match a simple script, or control the studio safety and security systems.

  • Redemption

Redemption is a new rocket propelled whiteknuckle ride which shoots riders in small pods up a steep tunnel from deep underground. Pupils are involved in making the ride function properly and there are fi nancial models based
around the shop as well as a presentation task to advertise the ride.
Soft Systems control tasks include: building Logicator
programs to control the pre-launch systems (operating lights, fans, doors, hydraulic motors and more), control the lift taking riders down to the
launch level, and operate a sensor-based system for
photographing each pod as it shoots up the tunnel.
